Viktor Sandgren

Hello! I'm Viktor, a game developer with 1001 ideas. As a programmer I live for problemsolving and tackling complex issues with a flexible mindset. As a game designer I love working on interesting mechanics and figuring out elegant solutions. I'm in my element when I get to come up with fresh ideas or pick apart concepts to examine the different pieces of the puzzle.

Projects

Track's End: Apocalypse Vacation

Engine: Godot      Team size: 3      Project duration: ongoing
My roles: Programmer, Game Designer

In a world where the apocalypse has already taken place, life keeps going - much like the train you and your party have boarded. Play with up to 3 other people in this rythm-based deckbuilding adventure. Travel the world, see the sights and fight some mutants along the way. As your party inevitably gets up to shenanigans, will you be the one to keep them on track?

I have been a part of this project since early summer, 2025. I have rewritten the whole projects code and in doing so I have learned a lot, mainly about multiplayer, card games, turn based combat and quick time events.

Will and Wisp

Engine: Unreal Engine      Team size: 6      Project duration: 6 weeks
My roles: Creative director, Team Lead, Programmer, Game Designer, Composer, Narrative Designer
Example blueprints: Will, Wisp, Controller

Step into a magical world of spirits and golems where you play as the titular pair Will and Wisp, swapping between them and using their unique abilities to solve puzzles together. Help the bound pair find other golem-spirit pairs and reunite them again to gain access to new powers and watch the open world unfold in front of you.

In this project I shared leadership with another team member since we came up with the game idea together. This was my first time working with Reaper and digital instruments.

Cartographer

Engine: Unreal Engine      Team size: 6      Project duration: 1 week
My roles: Creative director, Team Lead, Programmer, Game Designer

A co-op driving/navigation game where the goal is to hit a certain amount of checkpoints in time. One person drives but has no clue where the checkpoints are, and the other person navigates using a map that has the checkpoints marked, but are not able to see the car.

For this project we were given a choice of three themes. One of the themes was 'collaboration' and that is how I came up with this idea. In this project I, fittingly, worked as navigator while pair programming with a team member who wanted to learn programming. This was my first group project using Unreal Engine.

RailZ

Engine: Godot      Team size: 4      Project duration: 1 week
My roles: Creative director, Team Lead, Programmer, Game Designer
View project on: GitHub

RailZ is a zombie survival crafting game centered around having a mobile base in the form of a heavily modified train. Gather resources, craft weapons and upgrade your train - all so you can push forward through the tunnels to clear out the hordes that lurk within.

This was my first group project in Godot. I learned a lot about how to make an inventory, crafting and upgrading system. The biggest challenge I faced was making a moving train follow a set path while still bringing everything with it.

Candlelit

Engine: Unity      Team size: 4      Project duration: 5 weeks
My roles: Creative director, Team Lead, Programmer, Game Designer, Composer, Level Designer
View project on: GitHub, itch.io

In this 2D platformer you play as a candle and have to get to the end of the level before burning out. Jump across perilous gaps, burn ropes to open doors and dodge water drops along the way - but hurry up before the castle floods completely! Be careful though, you might not be the only fiery denizen of this castle...

This project was based on my oldest game idea. I learned a lot about 2D-platforming, physics and smooth movement. My biggest challenge in the project was making a wall jump that was satisfying to use but wouldn't trivialize other platforming and limit design space of level creation. This was the first time I tried making music and this was my first ever group game project.
